Adolescents and Adults

Adolescence is often a period of self-doubt and self-discovery.  My work with adolescents aims to help foster the talents that we each have and provide the social support in the quest for identity and to reach personal goals.  Depression and anxiety or other mental health issues can become serious obstacles.

Adulthood is a period of independence and self-support.  It is also a period of forming meaningful relationships.  Stressful events and relationship changes in our lives can tax our ability to cope effectively and may derail our search for peace and self-understanding.  I believe that each person has a desire to become the best person they can be.  Sometimes the path to self-development has obstacles that the individual is not able to overcome without assistance.  In my practice, I focus on strengthening the individual, mitigate weaknesses and diminish the impact of past negative events.  With psychotherapy, a person can learn to understand himself or herself, gain self-confidence and overcome the obstacles in their path to self-realization.

Parents often find themselves in difficult situations without a manual to guide them in their parenting skills.  This lack of orientation as to what works best is a challenge.  When your parenting practices do not resolve behavior problems in children it is time to seek help.  Together we will develop new parenting techniques that foster positive development in your children and fulfillment in your parenting role.  Adopting parents and foster parents may also benefit from counseling that helps adaptation to a new bonding event.

Couples, no matter the stage in their relationship, sometimes get stuck in a revolving door of negative emotionality.  Using Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), I can help couples identify the behaviors and underlying emotions that cause conflicts, understand the cycle that those behaviors created, and build a new understanding and communication style that enhances the relational bond.
